WVAHP Donates $20,000 to WV Health Right, supports opening of West Side Clinic in Charleston


Charleston, W.Va.: The West Virginia Association of Health Plans (WVAHP) donated $20,000 to West Virginia Health Right, Inc. in support of its West Side Clinic today. Representatives from the association and its member-companies joined WV Health Right during the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new clinic.


“The goal of the managed care organizations (MCOs), who manage West Virginia’s Medicaid Program, is to ensure efficient and quality care for West Virginia’s Medicaid members,” said Ben Beakes, executive director of the WVAHP. “Partnering with high-impact organizations like WV Health Right will expand quality care to some of the most vulnerable populations of the state.”


WV Health Right commemorated its new clinic on the West Side of Charleston with a ribbon cutting ceremony today. Each MCO attended the event.


“UniCare and its employees are excited to support WV Health Right and its expansion into the West Side of Charleston,” said Tadd Haynes, plan president of UniCare Health Plan of West Virginia and chairman of the WVAHP. “We are hopeful this clinic will yield a positive impact on the overall health of the community.”


Jason Landers, Medicaid plan president for The Health Plan and vice chairman of WVAHP, said, “The Health Plan is excited to see local entities taking charge of the health of its community. Community partnerships are important for the overall health of our state. We are happy to support WV Health Right in its expansion efforts.”


“Charleston is lucky to have organizations like WV Health Right in its community,” said Todd White, plan president of Aetna Better Health of West Virginia and secretary/treasurer of WVAHP. “The MCOs are glad we could come together through our association to assist in their efforts.”


There are currently over 574,000 Medicaid members in West Virginia, of which 474,000 are enrolled in managed care. Overall Medicaid enrollment has increased by over twelve percent since May of 2020. Managed Care enrollment has increased by over twenty percent during the same time-period.
